Let the balls fall as they may tonight, as 15 teams will find out their fate for the NHL’s annual entry draft in late June. The draft lottery goes tonight in Toronto, airing live on Sportsnet in Canada and NBCSN in the States. Colorado, via Ottawa, owns the best odds of claiming the top overall pick. Not bad considering they are getting ready for a playoff date against Calgary.

Here’s today’s edition of puck wire as you get ready for the lottery tonight and, FINALLY, playoff hockey tomorrow.

  • Speaking of tonight’s lottery, here’s a look at where you can watch the event and a look at the full list of odds. Remember, the top three picks will be selected via lottery tonight in Toronto.
  • Tonight’s prize? American-born center Jack Hughes, who is slated to be the top pick in a little over two months time. Hughes is set to ‘revolutionize’ hockey and appears to be the next generational talent to enter the league. Where will he go? He’s going to be grateful for any opportunity.
  • Hughes isn’t the only prize on the line tonight. The New York Post takes a look at the top three prospects in the upcoming entry draft.
  • As the playoffs open up, it’s time to take a moment and look at the players that might be taking their last shot at winning their first Stanley Cup. CBC takes a look at ten long-timer veterans that are running out of time to claim their first taste of glory.
  • Playoff failure has, unfortunately, been a common theme in Northern California. This spring, however, there is hope that things will be different. NBC Sports California takes a look at the reasons to believe that the Sharks will take down the Golden Knights in the opening round.
  • The final edition of the NHL’s three stars of the week for the regular season sees St. Louis’ Vladimir Tarasenko lead the way of a Central Division trio.
