Top hockey news for Friday, January 4th

Even though William Nylander scored his first goal of the season on Thursday, the Maple Leafs fell to the Wild.

Carey Price returned for Montreal against Vancouver and boy was he in fine form.

Staying in the same game, rookie sensation Elias Pettersson was injured just a day after being named to the All-Star Game.

As Seth Jones and Cam Atkinson continue to grow as players, this has helped the Blue Jackets rise as a team.

As the Sabres end their losing streak, Buffalo will be without star player Jack Eichel for a period of time.

The Carolina Hurricanes will be without Jordan Staal as he deals with an upper-body injury.

The New Jersey Devils are staying the course as John Hynes gets a new contract extension.
