Happy New Year Everyone!! We are into the calendar year 2019. Things kicked off the right way with some great hockey action. Here is the top hockey news for Wednesday, January 2nd. Today’s stories include another Winter Classic in the books, NHL announces events for next year, Alex Ovechkin to skip All-Star game, Coyotes to stay in Arizona for now, Viktor Arvidsson is back for Nashville, Mark Stone contract talks to heat up, Quarterfinal day at the World Juniors, and Devils place Taylor Hall on IR.

Top hockey news for Wednesday, January 2nd

Another Winter Classic in the books, as the NHL puts on another great event at Notre Dame Stadium. Boston edges Chicago by a score of 4-2.

Prior to the Winter Classic, the NHL announced 3 more outdoors for next season, one of which will be the Cotton Bowl hosting the 2020 Winter Classic.

Another announcement the NHL made was that St. Louis will host the 2020 NHL All-Star Game.

Speaking of the NHL All-Star Game, Alex Ovechkin, of the Washington Capitals, will skip this year’s game in San Jose.

In a letter to fans, Arizona Coyotes ownership reassures fans the Coyotes are not leaving.

Viktor Arvidsson is the “Straw that stirs the drink,” for Nashville as he leads the Predators to victory.

Looking to staying in Ottawa, Mark Stone told reporters contract talks between him and the team are heating up.

Over at the World Juniors, the medal round starts, here is a preview of the quarterfinals.

Even with the Devils on a three-game winning streak, New Jersey placed Taylor Hall on IR with a lower-body injury.
