Today’s stories feature Auston Matthews return, Patrick Kane’s historic night, Mathew Barzal first hat trick, a sweet homecoming, and a small change helps a star player.

Top hockey news for Sunday, December 24

After missing a several games with a concussion Auston Matthews returned to the Leafs lineup. Matthews return sparked the Leafs to a victory over the Rangers.

Despite the loss to the Devils, Patrick Kane joins elite company. Kane becomes the fifth Blackhawk to reach the 300 goal mark.

For the New York Islanders, rookie sensation Mathew Barzal has been quite the surprise. Barzal has come out of nowhere and recorded his first NHL hat-trick to lead the Isles past the Jets.

For John Gibson it was a sweet homecoming as the hometown boy shutout the Penguins as Anaheim continues to roll.

Coaches allows look for ways to make their team better and Ken Hitchcock is no different. Hitchcock made a small adjustment to Tyler Seguin’s game and it is paying dividends.
