Former NHLers Ian Moran & Terry Ryan Join Jimmy Murphy As C0-Hosts On Murphy’s Hockey Law Podcast Presented by CLNS Media Network
Boston, MA – Former NHLers Ian Moran (Pittsburgh Penguins, Boston Bruins, Anaheim Ducks, New Jersey) and Terry Ryan (Montreal Canadiens) have joined longtime hockey scribe and radio host Jimmy Murphy as co-hosts on the Murphy’s Hockey Law Podcast that can be heard weekly on the CLNS Media Network and at MurphysHockeyLaw.net.
Moran – who was born in Cleveland, Ohio but grew up in the greater Boston area – was drafted in the sixth round (107th overall) of the 1990 NHL Entry Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins. The stay-at-home defenseman played 433 games for the Penguins before being traded back to his adopted hometown and the Boston Bruins in 2003. Moran would go on to play 55 games with the Bruins and then finish his career off with the Ducks in 2008. He now resides back in the greater Boston area working as a scout and youth hockey coach.
“I’m really excited and looking forward to being involved with the podcast,” Moran said. “I’ve known Murph for years and had an instant connection with Terry. I know we’re going to have a podcast that I’d want to listen to!”
Ryan – a native of St. John’s, Newfoundland – was drafted eighth overall in the 1995 NHL Entry Draft by the Montreal Canadiens after an amazing junior career with the Tri-City Americans in the WHL. Ryan, a forward, would only play in eight NHL games for the Habs but through a long and winding career there and in the AHL, ECHL and IHL, as well as during his junior career, he accumulated plenty of on ice and off ice tales that are all told in his best-selling autobiography “Tales Of A First Round Nothing: My Life As An NHL Footnote”. Ryan lives in St. John’s and works as a part-time actor, hockey analyst and youth hockey instructor.
“Although interested, I’ve put off joining a podcast for years. When the opportunity came along to work with Ian and Jimmy I didn’t wanna pass it up,” Ryan said. “They are two interesting guys with unique hockey backgrounds. I think this will be a great show that’ll give listeners a glimpse inside pro hockey life while also tackling current, relevant issues within the game.”
Murphy – who like Moran, grew up and now resides back in the Greater Boston area – spent 11 seasons as a reporter and radio/TV hockey analyst covering the Boston Bruins for the Boston Metro, NHL.com, NESN.com and ESPNBoston.com. Following the 2013 season, he moved to Montreal to become the host of Top Shelf, a hockey show heard daily on Sirius/XM NHL Network Radio. Murphy returned back to Boston in 2015 to take a job in sales with LiveBarn.com and now MyHockeyLive.com. But he has remained involved with hockey media and recently launched his own site, MurphysHockeyLaw.net, and became the co-host (with Joe Gill) of the Bruins Beat podcast on the CLNS Media Network and now Murphy’s Hockey Law as well.
“I couldn’t be more thrilled to work with Ian and Terry,” Murphy said. “Through my work in the hockey media industry I got to know both and honestly, they remind me of each other with their great insight on the game but even more with their humor and candor. This is going to be a must listen for hockey fans of all ages and for anyone who likes a great TRUE story and a good laugh! Ian, Terry and I are also excited to be part of the CLNS Media Network as they continue to became a go to home for sports fans and beyond!”
